Dickinson County Projected and Actual Release
Michigan's public state-prison label is Earliest Release Date, often shortened to ERD. It marks when parole eligibility can begin if all legally applicable credit is earned. It is not a scheduled departure. The same OTIS profile may show Maximum Discharge Date, the potential outside date for the controlling sentence. The Parole Board can act after jurisdiction begins, and the actual prison exit can occur later than ERD.
Status supplies essential context. “Prisoner” means current MDOC confinement. “Parole” means the person left prison but remains under state supervision. “Discharged” means the MDOC relationship ended. For a probationer, the ERD-positioned field can instead represent a Supervision Release Date. That future supervision end is not a prison-release date. The label and status must travel together whenever a Dickinson County date is recorded or discussed.
A pretrial Dickinson County detainee has no computed sentence endpoint. Bond may allow release, but payment, another hold, or court processing can affect actual departure. A court order may authorize an exit before the jail finishes its own checks. The Dickinson County Correctional Center controls the operational release event, while the court record explains the legal authority.
Find Dickinson County Projected Release Dates
Begin by classifying the custody. OTIS is correct for an MDOC prison sentence or state supervision. It is not a calculator for a Dickinson County jail-only term. For a county sentence, use the Judgment of Sentence, jail credit, and direct jail confirmation. Federal and immigration cases belong to their own systems.
- Identify whether the person is pretrial, serving a Dickinson County jail term, in MDOC prison, in federal custody, or in immigration custody.
- For MDOC, open the official OTIS application and search by MDOC number when known.
- Confirm the person through physical details, sentencing county, court, and offense blocks before reading dates.
- Record current status, Earliest Release Date, Maximum Discharge Date, parole information, and discharge information with their exact labels.
- For a county sentence, obtain the 95B District or 41st Circuit Judgment of Sentence and identify the jail credit shown.
- Call Dickinson County jail at 906-774-6270 to confirm the actual county release date and whether another agency will take custody.
- After departure, seek the release form, parole record, VINE event, or other agency record that proves the actual outcome.
The OTIS search and terms page exposes the official state search route and cautions that projected information may not be current. The captured screen below documents the terms and available search channel.
The screen helps locate an MDOC record, but the matching profile, status, and formal source still control how a date should be interpreted.
The Dickinson County released inmate search covers the full county, court, state, and federal custody path when the last holding system is unclear.
Dickinson County State Release Date Rules
Michigan uses indeterminate state sentences expressed as a minimum and maximum. For offenses covered by modern truth in sentencing, MCL 791.233b generally bars parole before service of the full judicial minimum. The popular national shortcut that a Michigan prisoner serves about 85 percent is therefore wrong. MCL 791.234 governs Parole Board jurisdiction and includes special rules for life terms, consecutive sentences, and other categories.
Older offenses and special sentence structures require closer review. MCL 800.33 preserves older good-time and special-good-time rules within offense-date limits. MCL 800.34 addresses disciplinary time. Misconduct can change credit under an older eligible regime. Modern truth-in-sentencing cases should never be reduced by a generic 15 percent.
A sound review gathers the offense date, statute, Judgment of Sentence, minimum and maximum, jail credit, concurrency or consecutivity, and any amended order. “Concurrent” terms run together, while “consecutive” terms run one after another. These details can change when the Board first gains jurisdiction and which sentence controls the outside date.
- Earliest Release Date
- The public MDOC date when parole eligibility may begin under applicable sentence and credit rules.
- Maximum Discharge Date
- The potential outside endpoint of the controlling MDOC sentence, subject to lawful recalculation.
- Parole
- Conditional release from prison into community supervision; it is not full discharge.
- Detainer
- A legal request or basis for another authority to take custody after release from the current sentence.
Note: Michigan requires the full minimum in covered modern cases, while older credit rules depend on offense date and sentence structure.
Dickinson County Jail Release Date Calculation
A Dickinson County jail-only sentence is not calculated in OTIS. Michigan's County Jail Good Time Act, 1945 PA 210, supplies a separate framework. MCL 51.282 addresses qualifying sentences of at least ten days and a reduction tied to faithful observance. MCL 51.283 addresses forfeiture and restoration. Mandatory sentencing provisions, jail credit, discipline, and local application can alter the outcome.
The safe route starts with the judgment issued by the 95B District Court or 41st Circuit Court. Read the term and credited days exactly. Ask the Dickinson County Correctional Center to confirm its calculation and the actual date. A private arithmetic estimate does not prove that release occurred, especially if a new order, warrant, or detainer affects departure.
Pretrial custody follows a different path. It turns on bond, dismissal, a court order, case disposition, and other holds rather than county good time. A live jail roster would show only current custody, but no official Dickinson County online roster was found. Telephone confirmation and the completed release form are the direct local sources. For post-release documentation, the county FOIA route can seek an existing release record.
Dickinson County Release Date Changes
MDOC calculates from the Judgment of Sentence. A corrected judgment, later sentence, changed concurrency ruling, jail-credit correction, or data correction can move a public date. Under older credit rules, forfeiture or restoration may also change ERD. OTIS itself warns that projected date data may not be current, which is why a displayed value should be checked against the court and agency record.
| Factor | Possible effect | Best confirmation source |
|---|---|---|
| Corrected court judgment | Changes sentence terms or credit used by MDOC | Sentencing court and updated MDOC record |
| Concurrent or consecutive ruling | Changes whether terms overlap or run one after another | Judgment of Sentence |
| Older good-time loss or restoration | Moves ERD where the older credit regime applies | Institutional records and Time Computation Unit |
| Parole grant, deny, or defer | Affects actual conditional release after eligibility | Parole Board, OTIS, institutional release record |
| Warrant or detainer | Can route the person to another authority at discharge | MDOC and receiving agency |
| County court order or jail credit | Changes a Dickinson jail sentence calculation | Court and Dickinson County jail |
MDOC policy describes checks near maximum discharge. A sentence discharge report identifies cases about 180 days out, and the Time Computation Unit reviews maximum date and eligible credits around 120 days. Warrants, detainers, and personal-protection orders are checked before discharge and again no more than 24 hours before departure. These controls explain why the date and final destination may remain separate facts.
Dickinson County Weekend Discharge Dates
Michigan has a distinctive state-prison maximum-discharge rule. Under MDOC Policy Directive 03.01.135, a maximum discharge that falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or state holiday occurs on that actual calendar day. The person is not kept until the next business day and is not automatically released early. Administrative preparation for paperwork, clothes, funds, or travel may take place on the prior business day.
This rule applies to MDOC maximum discharge. It is not proof of how Dickinson County jail schedules release processing. The research found no official local weekend or holiday release procedure, release door, or fixed processing time. Those facts must come from the jail.
A state discharge can also lead directly to another custodian. MDOC checks for warrants and detainers. For an ICE detainer, the policy permits an added hold of up to 48 hours after discharge at ICE request, excluding weekends and federal holidays. The precise statement is that the person discharged from the MDOC sentence and was transferred or held for another authority. It would be inaccurate to call that an unrestricted community release.
Confirm Dickinson County Actual Release Dates
Actual release needs an operational record. For MDOC, compare Date Paroled when shown, current status, discharge information, and the institutional record. A parole grant precedes plans and required notices, so it is not the departure itself. Near maximum discharge, the Time Computation Unit and institutional records office are the direct state sources. Court-derived errors begin with the sentencing court.
For Dickinson County jail, call 906-774-6270 and ask whether the person remains held, the actual date and time of departure, the release type, and whether another agency received the person. The court can establish the legal order, but the jail establishes when processing ended. A written county request can seek the completed release form or log.
A pending custody alert through the VINELink Release Check can provide timely notice of a supported event. It remains an alert, not the certified record. If the event reports transfer, continue with OTIS, BOP, ICE, another county, or the named receiving agency. A released person usually vanishes from a current roster, so roster absence never establishes the date by itself.
State parole release has its own timing and records. The MDOC Family Information Packet says parole departures are generally processed early in the morning, so a parolee may leave around or shortly after 8 a.m. That is statewide institutional guidance, not a guarantee and not Dickinson County jail policy. The releasing prison's records office gives the actual time. MDOC materials also discuss return of retained official documents and, for qualifying people without other arrangements, limited funds, clothing, and transportation within Michigan. Those provisions describe the state process and should not be converted into a promise for every person.
For a probationer, a future supervision release date marks the expected end of court or MDOC oversight rather than exit from a cell. Confirm the current status and obtain the applicable discharge order. This avoids reporting a supervision endpoint as if it were the day a person left jail or prison.
- Identify the custody system and sentence type.
- Keep each date's official label.
- Read status before interpreting the date.
- Check parole, warrants, and detainers.
- Obtain the actual release or discharge record.
Note: Eligibility, maximum discharge, supervision end, and actual departure are four different events that can appear near the same record.
